Something, especially a decision, which requires little or no thought.

  • Asking for feedback is a no-brainer.
  • Going for the promotion was a no-brainer.

A Piece of Cake

Something which is easy to do or easily obtained.

  • With your experience, this project will be a piece of cake!
  • Speaking in public isn’t a piece of cake.

To Learn the Ropes

To learn the basics of a particular job or task.

  • It took me a few weeks to learn the ropes, but now I’m feeling confident in my new role.
  • My mentor really helped me to learn the ropes when I joined the company.

To Ring a Bell

To sound familiar.

  • His name rings a bell…is he the guy who works in Marketing?
  • A: Have you heard this phrase of the day before? B: No, it doesn’t ring any bells with me.
